Space technology is an indispensible tool for
national development. Space applications make use of space
technology to deliver valuable services to people on the ground.
Space technology and its applications are underpinned by
basic space science, which includes disciplines such as
astronomy, space physics, space geodesy and earth observation.
Through its astro/geo/space cluster of national facilities and
other space-related activities, the NRF is well placed to play
a critical role in the emerging national space programme in terms
of science and technology R&D, capacity building and training
and international science liaison. This one-day workshop will
examine recent developments in the South African space arena,
the current space-related activities in the NRF family and
work towards developing a position paper on the NRF's future
role in space-related activities vis-a-vis the new space
agency.
Participation in this workshop is open to interested stakeholders
from the NRF national facilities and programmes, academics and
industry. To participate, please contact Ms Margaret Kumalo on 08 333 42423
or send an email to secretariat(AT)space.gov.za
