WMO Climate Risk
Conference, to be held in Espoo, Finland: Climate can no longer be taken for granted. Three factors are
increasingly drawing attention to the need for more urgent and purposeful
adaptation to climate conditions and management of climate-related risks: 1.
Societies are becoming increasingly interdependent. 2. The climate system is
changing. 3. Losses associated with climatic hazards are rising.
The
conference will review opportunities and constraints in integrating climate
risks and uncertainties into the mainstreams of decision-making where
sensitivity to climate variability and change is but one among many factors
to consider. It will draw on the experiences of public and private
organizations worldwide that have been engaged in managing risks including
those of a climatic origin.

GeoInformation for Development:
Development topics are emerging more and more in daily discussions.
Affected by natural disasters and the consequences of global change,
economic development and human security issues, actors require
explicit spatial information for improved decision making. The
geoinformation community is aware of these potentials and
application fields. However, there are still many obstacles in the
way of successful implementation. The lacking awareness about GI
applications, inadequate human resources or missing institutional
provisions all hamper improvements.
gi4dev will address these
topics by means of an open discussion forum. See the Call for Papers. The meeting will be held in Salzburg, Austria.
